Default FAO Knighty or Fazzer re: Thornwood

I was just reading the cold weather thread and you both mentioned Thornwood.

Living in Blackheath SE London I'm always on the lookout for new places to fish within in hours or so drive.
Would you recommend this place in the winter?
(or any time for that matter)
I've also been reading about Chigborough too, any good?

I've just done my normal google earth search on Thornwood and can't see any lakes near the postcode given.
It's definitely the right postcode but can't see any water?!
Am I looking in the wrong place?

Cheers

Dan

Thornwood is listed on these forums (with map - where lake is now marked) here: Thornwood Trout Lake, Essex

Hope you dont end up fishing a field!

Hi Dan

I've not fished Thornwood but I have been over there to have a look and I spoke to the owner Pete.

I must say that I was impressed and will be fishing it this December for the first time.

Cheers

Fazzer

Thanks for the info guys.

So I take it it's quite a new water then if it doesn't appear on google maps?

I'll definitely be popping along for a day when the snow clears!

Cheers

Dan

Hi Dan - I have fished both very recently, Chigborough 5 weeks ago and Thornwood 3 weeks ago, both are great lakes and produce great quality fully finned rainbows and browns, 2 fish + catch & release is £27 for chiggers and £30 for thornwood, I would say forget chigborough in the summer, in the hot conditions the place just switches off as its too shallow........I didnt fish thornwood in the summer, but wish I did as its spring fed and quite deep, none of the other essex trout venues are spring fed to my knowledge........both are well worth a visit and have very friendly staff.......peter is especially helpful!

heres my brownie from thornwood, only my second ever, not bad for the 3rd cast of the day!!!!....

Default aerator fitted to keep ice at bay..

am sure more bigger brownies will be out now, aerator installed now to keep sections fishable-i expect orange patterns will be the main catchers after last years results in cold....a few bigger fish came out before freeze, but now the main pool is nearly ice free...
