Default Simms Hat

For years I have been looking for a peaked cap which is warm and waterproof with a good size brim. Found the Simms extreme weather hat in a catalogue and blanched at the price but bought one for this winter. After a day's chub fishing in the rain and a day shooting yesterday- in the snow etc and with a biting North Easterly I am hugely impressed. Warm, comfy and with a brim that is just right for blocking out the sun when a pheasant is flying towards you. Ear flaps too- vv impressed.

Yes, it is an excellent cold weather hat. It seems to be the case with Simms gear that you get what you pay for.

Post Simm's hat and now a shroud

Hi SharkeyP

A Simm's waterproof shroud with pockets. Are you going to be buried with all your fishing tackle just in case you can use it on the other side?

There's an appropriate story written by G.E.M. Skues, the father of fly fishing, called Mr Theodore Castwell. It's all about fishing on the other side.If you've time look it up.

Sorry to take his further from the OP for a second, But much though I admire Mr Skues and his contributions to taking fly fishing forward;

My fishing partner (Jim Jones) uses one of these darned near 6 months of the year. Per him: 'The Cat's Meow.' And our winter weather can be a real 'pissxer.' The thing that really makes this design handy is the 'bill cap' config. It hold your rain hood up/off your face; a major plus.

The only downside is that it makes me look like Roy Cropper(for US readers-borderline autistic weirdo cafe owner in TV soap) . But I care not- my head of hair is not quite as lustrous as in my youth and the difference in temperature to normal hat is worth the price alone. Mind you in summer it would boil your brains- so who does a decent hat with a proper brim for summer fishing that is 100% waterproof- I have lots of baseball etc caps and none keeps the rain out.
