Default river don

been on river don again and still producing plenty of grayling. The tram system in sheffield is a god send tram every ten minutes and the same with the bus so can get to all the best spots.Covered about 4 mile of the river and its a fantastic river to fish you would not believe your in a city centre and i got the whole river to myself.

The water between Club Mill road (in front of Mecca Bingo on the A61) and a couple of hundred yards upstream of Niagara weir (behind Winn Gardens housing estate) has had free angling access negotiated by SPRITE (Sheffield's "trout in the town" branch) with the dozens of businesses/landowners backing on to that reach of river.

SPRITE membership is free and "subs" are just to turn up to the odd litter pickup or other event. A SPRITE membership card conveys liability insurance and also hooks you up with a group of regular anglers who know the access points (and also the odd exception where permission to fish has been denied by certain businesses/landowners).

You can contact the chair of SPRITE (John Blewitt) by email on blackgnat@blueyonder.co.uk

If you can't ever attend a working party (we always fish afterwards and they usually only take an hour or, at most, two) then a small donation would be appreciated and very well used.....Although I would say that if you can spare half a day to fish, then you definitely have an hour to pick litter or make tea!
