Default Tenkara fishing

Has anyone tried this style of fishing, it sounds good but I have never seen anybody using it? is it just for trout and grayling in rivers or can it be used for all small fish anywhere?

I use it on the Clyde when the conditions are right.
It is meant to be used on small streams, but every big river has small streams within it-if you know what I mean.
