Default The importance of rod holders for lake fishers

A word of caution about storing rods in a boat while moving. Most anglers store their rods lying along the seats when driving, with the result that the upper part of the rod is buffeting against the seats, this results in aweakening of the blank due to hairline cracks. Rods should always be stored upright in holders when the boat is in motion.A lot of rod breaks are due to this. Hope this helps

p/s I use a very simple holder made from 1.5'' white PVC waste pipe screwed to the gunnels at a convenient place

Yesterday, in a hurry as usual, I propped up my landing net, extended in the bow. Electric motor, throttle jammed full on and blew my landing net in the water. Spent 10 embarrassing minutes circling the damn thing to try and pick it up.
It gave the bank anglers something to laugh at.

I tend to give mine to Jenkins to hold whilst I enjoy a swan sandwich in one hand, a glass of fine claret in the other and Jeeves gently rowing one to the next drift.

hutch, great post, had me in stitches. It reminds me of when my new southern flatmate arrived in freshers week at Newcastle Uni and complained that his dad had nowhere to park the Bentley!

Totally agree
seen this happen a couple of times this year, the slotted pipe you use is ideal!

Careful with overhanging trees - I was recently in a boat with a friend when an overhanging tree whipped his rod and reel out of the holder and dumped it into deep water, never to be seen again.

And bridges. I saw a whole rack of 6-8 rods bite the dust when the owner of a center console forgot and went under a bridge at speed.
