Default Pyschology of Fishing?

I went to a talk the other day and the speaker mention a scientific term 'flow'

Details here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology)

I reckon - that's bang on to describe a good days fishing?

What do others think?

I'm certainly in the flow when I hook a fish. I feel everything else fade and all my senses focus on the act of not loosing the fish. Of course, this may have something to do with the fact it happens so little .

Sums it up for me, there's a saying or state of mind in Japanese Budo, Mushin no Shin. Which basicly equates to the same as flow, but, hey could be nonsense. Who knows?

Enough of this fanciful, philosophical mullarky. Already got 11 points on my poetic licence, one more and I'm facing a ban on "Wandering lonely as a cloud".

Helped my wife find references for her dissertation on 'Flow', so very pertinent to what we do.

Came across a reference describing how Ayrton Senna manged to drive for a number of laps around Monaco, whilst esperiencing flow, and couldn't remember !!!

Begs the question, do we cast and retrievein the same way ?

As a young, youngster my 'Mentor's' question was are you "Hunting or Fishing?" With the first you fully intend to catch fish, and you're damned surprise if you don't. With the second .... you're just standing in water flaying away.

A mind set.

Very well put Fred. It is very rare I ever go fishing for the scenery. I can do that anytime without a rod in my hand. It is undoubtadly (for me at least. and always has been) all about the hunt. I have fished in some of the most wonderful locations, but get tunnel vision to the exclusion of the surroundings at any signs of a fish.
