Default Barbour Solway Zipper

I've got a really old one - probably about 35 years old, and it fits really well. I really love it, but the lining's gone on one side and there's no belt. How do they compare to modern Barbours?
I inherited mine and love wearing it, but am concerned with it's age the fabric might be more fragile than a newer one, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the newer ones aren't as good. I was toying with the idea of getting a new one, but it seems a bit stupid to have a perfectly good one that (hopefully) is better in design and performance than the newer ones, but not to use it.
As a side note, I love all the little details, like the tops of the pockets that fold over with the flap to keep the rain out, and the little hoop on the breast pocket, which I assume is for your pipe. I can't think of what else it would be for, being too small and in the wrong place to hold a net.
Anyway, what's the thoughts on the newer Barbours? Gone the way of all things modern?

I used to use mine for fell walking and loved it. Then along came Gortex, light and breathable - couldn't go back, couldn't afford to anyway.

My dad had it rewaxed about 10 years ago just before he died. I've not really worn it much since then. It smells pretty much like any wax jacket, though that said, it's taken ten years to lose the overpowering parafin wax smell so that now my wife can bear to be in the same room as it.

Lorks , they were a pile of pish , some 30 years ago I retired mine with a Grenfell breathable
its still going waterproofing is Fecked but still windproof .
waxed cotton is a thing of the past ,would not buy or use again ,despite years of fishing and motor cycling in them .
"21st century folks dont do waxed cotton ,its pish !

£59........?

I only want it though if it leaks, stinks, and stands up in the corner on its own when you take it off... that way I know it's genuine.

I like the Drizabone full-length jackets. I bought the sister one for using with the horses and the reports back are great. The use of the shoulder piece covering the seams looks to be a good idea.

At the moment I use a German army surplus Goretex jacket & leggings. They're hardly the epitome of sartorial elegance, but at least no bu99er can see you properly while wearing it.

The local army surplus place does them for about £30 > £35 each.

I'd love to see someone design outdoor clothing that doesn't make you look like a lost chav in the sticks or the heir to Lord Buttwhacker's estate.

Richard ,there you have a point, however my need are for water and wind proof and avoidance of sweat build up.and with my thin blood warmth .
Waxed Barbours just dont do it ,for me.
Must state that I had one of their spey wading jackets which did me well for 8-9 years ,and the old Grenfell does for my odd beating days when its likely to be dry !
I guess the days when I used to force myself through brambles to get to fish are gone ,must be getting soft
