Default How to get a sinking line, to sink

received a new sinking line, and tried it out at the local fishery, but no matter what i tried to get it to sink (thrashing it on water, pulling line under with my rod tip etc.), it just popped back up to the surface again . Does anyone have any tips as to how to get sinking line to sink??

Cheers,
Alex
