Default Really quick basic question...

Hi all, going fishing tomorrow (only my 3rd outing and yet to catch a fish!)

I'm going to be using a buzzer on floating line with a 9ft tapered leader then 3ft tippet. I want to use a self adhesive butterfly indicator but my question is where is the best place to put it? I know this is a silly question to anyone above my level but I really am struglging to get my head around it. I'm thinking at the end of the leader just before the knot that joins the tippet?

Any help greatly appreciated - I'm setting everything up in the living room as I'll just be wasting hours of fishing time tomorrow trying to get all the knots right etc..!!

Don't even start with a stick on indicator. They are a nightmare to get fixed right.

Cast your buzzers and just keep in contact with them, very slow fig of 8.

If your want to use the strike indicator, place it on the leader at the depth you think the fish are feeding.
Get some thingmabobber much better job.

Cheers Al, I'll have a go without them then.

I'll get some of those thingmabobbers - how do they attach? Just looking on the web it looks like there is an eye at the top of them but surely they would move about - do you secure them with a knot?

You just secure them with a larks head knot.

You might like to try these: Peg Indicators – Glasgow Angling Centre
The beauty of them is that, if you're not getting any takes, you can simply pop out the peg and move the indicator up or down your line, thus altering the depth that you're fishing at - it's much easier this way than if you attach an indicator with a knot.
The only thing I'd say is that the smaller indicators are best - they have the least effect on your casting; the big ones can be troublesome in windy conditions.

Hang in there Robbie. The learning curve can be steep at first but it is worth it. Join a club or find someone that will help you learn. Good luck!

Hello,

Have a look at this link.

Turn-On Strike Indicators › Strike Indicators › Fishing Tackle › Page 1

I use these as they come in diff sizes and are easy to put on/take off. I twist them about 5 or 6 times to make sure they stay on. Very easy to use and they don't slide down your leader when casting like other indicators do.

Personal preference obviously but worth having a look at.

Robbiejam, as you can see, in just a few replies, you have been given 4 options. All will work, it's just a case of working out which is best for you and your situation. I am also new to flyfishing, been doing it for around 18 months, and find that one of the confusing things about asking questions is the myriad of solutions offered in response!!
The thing is keep asking, keep trying, and keep listening to the great advice freely given by those members who are kind enough to offer advice.
I have asked a few questions on here, and learned a lot from it.
Keep enjoying the learning curve !!

Cheers,
Gary.
