Default Is there any free Grayling fishing in Cheshire/Derbyshire

I've never fished for grayling, and know nothing about where to fish them.

Are there any rivers in Cheshire/Derbyshire where you can fish them with just a rod licence in the same way course fishermen fish rivers?

Or are they all on fisheries or in stretches of water run by clubs.

Thanks

Hi There,

I am not sure about any free fishing in Derbyshire (I am sure some other forum members might be able to help you better than me)

If you can get to Sheffield/South Yorkshire there is lots of free fishing for Grayling available on the River Don, River Loxley & Rivelin.

The River Don especially is stuffed with Grayling at the minute with large catches being reported.

I know there are members on here who fish there regularly and could probably provide further information but you could start by looking at SPRITE here: Sprite

Good Luck.

Not Cheshire but over the border in Powys there is a very good EA owned 1/2 mile long "free" grayling stretch on the right bank of the upper Severn at Llanidloes sewage works.

Environment Agency Llanidloes Fishery; phone 01743 272828 (park at the works)

Default free grayling fishing

Not exactly free but at £5:00 a day , not bad. Contact the Derwent Hotel at Whatstandwell derbyshire, they have a short section of the Derwent, a small amount of wadeable water but mostly bank fishing and it's stuffed with grayling
tight lines, have fun

Thanks for the input. The Sheffield/South Yorkshire route sounds a good one to try. I'm relatively close to Sheffield - coming from Stockport, and I like the idea of there being good stretches of river to try.

Thanks for that.

Phil

I used to live near Stockport and joined a very friendly little club based at Marton Lakes (just south of Alderly Edge). They had very reasonable grayling options for very low cost membership - but that was some time ago, so it might have all changed. Worth checking out though.

I'd also recommend nipping into the fly fishing shop in Bakewell (hebden court) and speak to Pete. He'll sort you out with grayling int 'shire.

Default What about the Goyt?

If I remember correctly there used to be some free / very reasonable fishing on the Goyt around Marple, Strines and up towards Disley. Have a chat with Stockport Flyfishing Shop, I'm sure they'll know more about it.
Regards,
Mike
