Wink F.Forums 40+ Bloody Topic Sections?

I first started posting on this sight five/six years ago. We had around seven or eight topic sections for the whole fly fishing forum back then... it was let's say a little more intimate than the current ff forum lay out. You would bump into familiar posters for the craic.

Now we have 40+ sections... not that it really bothers me.

But bloody hell you could get lost in some corners of this site like Fly Fishing Literature for weeks without communicating with a living sole - like Tom Hanks in Cast Away... and when I scroll down the 40+ forum topics with my mouse - I'm sure I can feel my knuckles groaning with premature arthritis...

For a minority sport/pursuit jesus we have allot of sections on this site... maybe it's just me?

I totally agree, it's getting too big and too commercial.

It's actually 64! It gets mentioned on here time and time again. The funny thing is when Admin do comment on a thread about the number of sections they normally say that they are about to address it, and sure enough the amount then goes up! Last time it was mentioned in a thread I think there were CIRCA 54 boards. It's gone up by a further ten since then.

Don't get me wrong some of the sections have been good additions. The river habitat one for example, but for the love of God let's drop/combine some of the others. For example; Salt Water Fly Fishing, Fly Fishing For Other Species, am I the only one who can see a bit of a similarity in those two? Another two; Fish & Fly news, Fly Fishing Forum news! There are many others, but as has been mentioned the number of commercial sections is bordering on ridiculous. The irony - with that amount of commercial sections, I purposely stay out of all of them because there are so many. Surely one or two would be more likely to generate views? I'm also positive the amount of boards will put off many new members from posting for fear of putting the thread in the wrong section.

I've configured my User CP to subscribe to about 10 sections which interest me. Log on, click User Cp and read those, log off. Cuts out most of the dross this way

I only keep open the sections that interest me, keeping the others closed. Even then there are a lot of sections inside the main areas that I don't read. Occasionally there might be something appears that piques my interest but not very often. I still have to scroll an awful lot though which is a pain in the rear

Clicking the new post tab is useful, and providing I have been active in the last few hours, it covers most things.
However if you are away for any length of time you can miss an awful lot.
I often use the "see all todays posts" button, and work my way back from there.
Having a lot of sections doesn't bother me one jot, I just use the ones I want.
I am on several forums, and getting about on this one, is IMO the easiest and best layed out one of them all, even for me.
