Default Trout lochs on south Skye

hi,

i have recently been to southern isle of skye. I fished 2 lochs, both owned by the 'Eilian Iarmain' estate - Hotel Eilean Iarmain | 3 Star Hotel Located on the Beautiful Isle of Skye - I fished Loch Bharabhaig and Loch Na Dubhraichean. The website states that the lochs offer brown trout between 2lb and 4lb. First I fished Loch Na Dubhraichean and caught three small fish (biggest at approx. 8oz and is pictured). All i caught at Loch Barabhaig was a cold . Has anyone been to these lochs and caught one of these big fish? Or even caught anything on Barabhaig?

Hi Alex,

There are plenty of lovely looking lochs round here where you have a chance of a fish between 2lbs and 4lbs. Unfortunately, you have a far bigger chance of coming away with nothing. Don't be disheartened - if it was too easy it wouldn't mean so much

You didn't seriously expect wild brown trout with a minimum weight of 2lb? Perhaps you are used to stocked fisheries?

While there are most certainly wild fish of those proportions on Skye, they are most definitely not the norm.

Yes I did expect fish of around 2lb and over because I looked on this website - Fishing Finder Where to Fish Directory for places to fish in Scotland for wild brown trout - Lochs, The Western lsles - and the site says that the "lochs stocked with brown trout". Of course I didn't think they would be wild. Where did you get the idea that the big ones would be wild anyway?

Bit confused

One website says it is 'stocked' but that can mean anything...on an upland highland water most likely means an anual suplemenatary stocking. That site doesn't mention size.

A totally different site says :"These lochs offer brown trout between 2lb and 4lb, and some arctic charr also in loch na Dubhraichean."

Offer surely means a chance of catching, in the same sentence as char which are totally wild??

Finally why wouldn't you expect to get a big wild brown...I have had countless wild browns in the category and many on here will have had considerably over the 4lb mark?
