Question Do I hang up my rod for the winter??

Am up in the Highlands and reaching the end of the season as I used to know it. Putting aside the wonderful locations and healthy fresh air, and confessing that I'm not so much of a purist that I don't mind actually catching the odd fish, I'm not sure whether to keep the rod out of the cupboard or not. If I keep going I do think the dry fly goes away & that I should go sinking line with at least one of those lovely fancy lures (didn't have them when I used to fish before!) I've admired in the shops. Anyone got any thoughts/hints/tips? Thanks.

Plenty locals .........not heard of any grayling fishing. Odd trout fishery that remains open all year round, just not sure if that's to get easy money or if the fishing's still viable!
