Default Thornwood Trout Fishery

Morning All,

Has anyone fished this venue recently? Is it worth a go?

Cheers

Fazzer

Hi Fazzer, I havent fished it since march/april time, last time I went I blanked, but I saw others catch, but 2 weeks before that both me & dad caught 6 fine examples between us, my dad had a 4 1/2 pounder which was best of the month at the time.......its just been featured in the trout fisherman magazine.......dont judge it by the car park or the site caravan! its a lovely place in the early days of development, the 2nd lake looks cracking, me and dad will be going weekend after next if you fancy meeting up???

Thanks 22lbbrown.

Read the article in Trout Fisherman and I must say the lake and future plans look great. We certainly short on good trout fisheries in Essex.

What is the charging basis? Do you do C&R?

Cheers

Fazzer

Hi Knighty

How's the Essex Fly Fishers Club?

I'm off to Hanningfield this Sunday with the father-in-law so a second trip so soon is going to be difficult (I have a young family).

Definately up for fishing Thornwood and meeting up end of November or early December. I assume it's open all year?

By the way if you get the chance to fish Hanningfield before the end of November take it. It's fishing really well at the moment some fantastic sport to be had.

Default prices & ticket options...

yes we are open all year-and fished well all summer! despite heat we are a highly ogygenated water-just ask the next fish you catch here!....basically we are deep enough and spring fed so allways cooler water somewhere for the fish.soon i add a few interconnecting streams with a pump to allow extra circulation of the ponds for more habitats and features and hopefully even better summer fishing.dont assume cause its bright and still in summertime the fish are off the feed here! but occasionally there was an off day!prices-£30 all day take 2 fish inc catch & return afterwards,£25 catch & return all day, some shorter hour seasonal tickets also available...prices to be set soon for other lake and pool..see you soon

This is a great little fishery, which I fish quite often.
Not always an "easy" place to fish, but always worth the effort.
The one thing I will say, is that the fish here are always in really good condition, fully finned and fight well.
You will enjoy it.

Cheers,
Gary.

Cheers Gary.

Based upon the pics in TF it looks a pretty lake.

Do the fish taste good?

I've only ever eaten one fish from there, as I normally fish C&R.
The one I did eat was lovely though.
As for being pretty, well, it is a relatively open lake, and the marginal plants are still maturing. On the plus side, there is plenty of space for your backcast.
Looking forward to the brown pool opening, and the specimen lake too.
I watched them being excavated, over a few weeks, so I will have to remember where the deeps bits etc are.

Think I might take a trip over sometime next week to have a look.

Had my appendix out last week so I've got to be careful I don't pull my stitches. Sitting on a boat back drifting blobs and boobies over Hanningfield tomorrow so no chance of over doing it.

I'm in Upminster and normally fish Hanningfield or Chigboro. If I fancy a quick session I normally do The Norton Fishery. I've also had my fist trip to Grafham this season.

I see you are from Hornchurch. Where do you fish apart from Thornwood?

Cheers

Fazzer
