I just thought Id post a thread to let any guys in North London, Herts area know how well Rib Valley in Ware, Herts is fishing at present.

I did the full session yesterday and had without the best day fishing Ive had there.

After buying my ticket and receiving the necessary info re flies etc, I began with a washing line (kind of ) set up with two different style black buzzers with a very buoyant black emerger pattern on the point.

The water clarity was probably the best Ive seen there, so fishing small nymph patterns I believed would get rewards.

The fish seemed to be very close in and didnt seem deterred by the pressure of 15 or so anglers present. This meant I didnt have to cast that far (which is sometimes a blessing for me lol). With quite light winds coming from the right it fished my buzzers perfectly and was soon into them. I dont know but it seems this years stock have a real bit of aggression to them. Pretty fuuly tailed and in superb condition.

After catching a few I stopped for coffee break and changed to two small Diawl Bachs ( lovely kind of fishing).

Still catching I changed to a couple of dries and had some excellent sport on them until the pressure got too much for them and off they went.

After talking to the club secretary Im seriously thinking of joining them. Rib Valley has always been a fantastic place to visit I would seriously recommend the trout fishing there at present.

Yup, you get a reduced ticket price and we have some decent activities - there is a fly tying evening this month, I believe and there are club trips to other venues.

When I joined I was pretty much a novice and I learned an incredible amount from the guys that were regulars there.

Haven't been there for a couple of years - do anglers still sit and fish there?

I remember seeing you there, Chris.

It's improved a fair bit since then but I still miss the bigger lake.

I actually fell in while sitting on a platform on one of those orange chairs from the lodge (leg went through the gap in the decking !).................in February

That caused a few laughs - I don't sit down so often now

Couldn't think of a nicer place to have a swim - although perhaps as you say the big lake.

I went to the open day yesterday - thanks to those who organised this and spent time passing on tips.

I think I learned some useful stuff and its another place to head for in the winter

Though maybe not today ..
