Default River habitat forum

'whingingpom' and I have petitioned the forum admin (Sofi) today to start a separate River habitat section. Sofi agreed with our proposal and has forwarded the request to the technical department. Watch this space ...

Excellent.

That should get some decent arguments going

I'd love to see it. Entomology, Small Streams and this would be some of the most useful additions to the forum over the years.

Would still be good to refer to broad concepts in the general discussion. That way, people who haven't come across the link between habitat quality and fishing quality can still be drawn in (and then pointed towards the habitat forum).

It will be good to have a spot that people know where to look if they are already interested, but also good to raise awareness for those who don't yet know that all fish need habitat (and what good habitat looks like)

I do see that point Paul; my reason for creating this thread was to try to see if a separate section is generally thought to be a good idea, or if what we have now is better

I think people will be drawn in Paul as they look at new and recent posts and see the activity. ( but maybe I use the forum differently).
The main point for me is that with the wealth of good information and projects seen on there, It is really hard to find your way back or cross reference to former postings when they are spread around various threads. This will make it easier to find or reaseach into former posts for information.

If they were collected under the heading Habitat and Restoration, it will not only make that easier., but add the gravitas and status to those two words that they deserve.

Oh I agree (especially for ease of re-locating things where "I know I've seen a post on that somewhere!").

Just a reminder to spin out the discussion and flag up in the main bit every now and then too.

All good stuff.

Thumbs down

I wont use it. It is much more preferable to talk about these things where people will see it; on the main board.

Pom & Ennio,

I like the Idea - SPECIFIC INFORMATION SHARED we can all learn from sharing information, especially as we'll know where to look for it, with a specific section.

Look forward to seeing it up and running.

I dont understand why it would not still be in the 'main board' of the forum as Warren calls it. Just keeping the info together under one heading so that it can be accessed again by those who are looking for answers rather than trying to find info amongst talk of blobs and hi viz lines etc seems to make sense to me.

However if one of the more influentual habitat restoration exponants and river keepers in the country digs his heels in and says he's not playing ball.
Well as he contibutes as much as anyone to these threads, then its a pretty futile exercise and a none starter I guess.

Cest la vie

I think it is a good idea. A place where we can report on the projects as we do them as well.

I am not sure that Warren's theory holds much water - witness the Derbyshire and Peacock Flyfisher threads in the River Forum - people seem to find them!
