Default Flextec warranty.

Last week I won a flextec CRX 88, 6-7wt in a competition,

After bringing it home I searched the forum and read some good reviews,. Took it out for a spin yesterday along with a Greys I won in the same comp. Lets just say I am glad I took the Greys as the Flextec broke within the first 10 casts using a 6wt midge tip line with 2 blobs.

I checked out the Flextec web page and here by Jesus they are looking for £30 per section. Now, with the break at the joint at the top of the rod this means 2 sections, therefore they would want £60 plus the cost of me posting the rod over to them in England, thats say another tenner. So it would be cheaper to buy a brand new flextec off e-bay than claim of the warranty.

Of all the rods I have owned over my years, after starting off with a great wee Shakespeare and finding my favourite in the Sage, I can say, hand on heart, the ONLY dissapointing rod in all them years is the Flextec

How the hell can they be allowed to charge these exorbitant handling fees.Thats more than the total I was charged in getting one of my Sages replaced (and thats postage to/back America bearing in mind its nearly 8 times the cost of the Flextec)

Don't be fooled by the guaranteed for life, its too expensive.

I'd give tackle discounts a call and explain. They may replace them for free on the basis that it is fairly common and the damage it's doing to their image.

I hade an CRX 66 (I think that was the number) 4 piece 10ft 8/9, and it was really very nice.

Though I seem to be in the minority of people who haven't had a problem with the flextecs.

Hi oddgitt.

Tackle Discounts would replace it free if I had bought the rod off them but because I cannot provide an order number or a mailing address to the purchaser they cannot help.

Though I think you are right, the people who havent had problems with their flextec are the minority.

Its a pity because the CRX 88 did feel nice and I was looking forward to giving it a lash.

Hi

my mate has the crx 88 and crx 66 he has had plenty of fish on them and never had a problem,i did have a look on ebay but seen a feedback someone left saying it broke within 10mins which put me off, so i got myself two second hand daiwa rods one off this forum and one off ebay.

I dont think the flextec rods are worth the rrp but thats just me.

cheers mitch

I am quite new to fly fishing and saw the Flextecs on sale on Ebay and mentioned on here with lots of very positive reviews. I therefore invested in a CRX88 9' 6/7.

So far so good. I have had casting lessons and the instrustors have used my rod and said that it casts very nicely indeed, certainly as well as big ticket premium brands. I also invested in the reel, but did not like that so much and returned it. The rod has been put to hard use and landed me some good hard fighting rainbows and browns. For the total cost of £33 (included postage), I'm very happy with it indeed and will stick with it for now. Maybe if/when I get better at casting, I will invest in something more upmarket, but for a newbee, it is more than adequate.

Sorry to hear that others may not have had such a good experience as me, but mine has been good.

I have been using the crx66 4 piece rod all summer with no problems for rainbows and browns and prefer it to my Loomis, if it dose break i would not pay £ 30 to replace the section an the guarantee says as i only payed £ 36 posted.
You get what you pay for so good ones and some that just break.

I really cannot see how a dealer can replace the rod for free but when someone like me contacts the manufacturer direct I am charged £30 handling fee per section.
Its a fly rod section for goodness sake not nitro glycerin. And its not all that heavy.

Its more the con that is LIFE TIME UNCONDITIONAL WARRANTY.

Any other product which has an obvious flaw in the manufacturing would have been recalled but for some reason us anglers have to pay for the privilege.

Now, if you'd paid for it, you could just send it back as being not fit for purpose. But it was a prize in a competition. You didn't pay for it. So, it was maybe a duff prize, but seriously... it's not like you've lost anything. The competition organisers might agree to send it back for you if you ask them nicely. Assuming they paid for it.
