Default Blue Trout

I read a comment somewhere that Blue Trout were a "novelty fish"

Having just caught my first few, all I can say is - novelty can be a good thing. They just never seem to give up fighting and llb for llb, they outfight rainbows.

Good question. So far I've stuck mine in the freezer.

Dunno. put them all back, but would suggest muscle structure is a bit firmer than rainbows, having handled 3 or 4.

Not sure they actually fight better than rainbows, they are essentially the same fish, but they do stay in better condition throughout the season.

I've been told that they are a rainbow variant but to my mind, they have a different shape. More hunchbacked and deeper bodied. They look more powerful. Probably an optical illusion caused by the different colouring?

Still think they fight better than rainbows. The first two that I caught, I could get glimpses of them and their size and I was convinced that I had foul hooked them, they way that they just held on.

They are just a colour variation of rainbow trout as are golden trout (noting that there is a variety of trout in America called the golden trout which is not the same thing) but what intrigues me is why they fight harder, because they definitely do.
