Default Rms

Caught my first Rainbow today with RMS> (it seemed apathetic and slightly thin for it's size)
The fishery assured me that it is perfectly ok to eat.

Anybody got any thoughts on whether RMS affects edibility?

Red Mark Syndrome, also known as cold water strawberry disease I think. Wouldn't be overly keen on eating one myself.

Stuart is correct it is red mark syndrome which is a type of fish dermatitis, with raised ulcers which if they pop leaves them open to further disease like saprolegnia and when this gets in the fish will go white and fungied and eventually may die.
it can be treated with chemicals, but should be done at fish farms before delivery to any water and it can recede at water temps above 16 degrees celcious.
There has been alot of disease this year more than normal and these fish are all over at present and as they are not fit for the table market some are being delivered as the demand for big fish,of which there has been a shortage,is so great.
It doesnt look nice and is not as potent as many other diseases, but as with all food the saying in the catering industry is "if its not pleasing to the eye get rid."

How about put back!
if owners have put them in the water, then they should be shown quid pro quo, kill only or not.

Why put it back ,they would be better out of the water.Checking your fish before they go in is upto the owners to do and in their best interests. But with large concentrations of fish some could be carriers and it may develop on others aswell and fisheries cant help that.
