Default Ron Thompson Strike Zone 4 Piece 9' 6# Fly Rod

bought this rod on ebay for 24.99. simply because i lost the tip of my lochmor x last week and couldnt get a replacement. il only get to a few fisheries now the seasons ended and wanted a cheap rod to do me. heading to florida early next year and have promised myself a new rod and reel. any recomendations of rods, reels etc to have a look for in florida? i fish for brownies in rivers, and rainbows in some of the stocked fisheries. regards, pearse

Pearse,The Ron Thompson is probably going to be a bit harder to live with than your lochmor x which were decent fishing rods.

Default RT rods

If you rotate the rod when you cast to ensure the fish cant see the makers name you should be fine

Seriously don't listen to the tackl trarts, RT rods are functional pieces of kit

Jim,

You are absolutely correct about rotating the rod to ensure the fish cannot see the brand name. To make absolutely sure, I cover the brand name with parcel tape!!

My Ron Thompson has been in regular use for several years all round the UK and Southern Ireland and has never let me down. Regret that I am unable to compare it with £400+ rods as I do not think the perceived benefit justifies the expenditure. But if you wanna pay 15 or 20 times the price for a rod, go ahead.

OK, it didn't cost £400. So how much more than £25 was it? And are the more expensive rods worth it?

lavo85,

You have got to enter into the spirit of this.......... If you are only going to pay £85 against a £25 rod such as the Ron Thompson, when you can pay £400 for a rod , where will it all end? Respect..... respect....
