Default Nursery School.

I held two sessions on fly fishing today at my son's nursery school. One with the AM group and one with the PM group.

A two minute talk on what trout eat. A look through a fly box. A bit of casting (by me), then allowing them to each hold the rod and reel in. They loved it and who knows what seeds have been planted in a future angler.

Schools are generally pretty keen on parents/grandparents coming in and doing something with the kids. If you get the opportunity, I recommend you take it. Or you could even volunteer/ suggest doing something similar.

It can only be good for the future of our sport.

Default Schooling

Excellent, I do it all the time, I used to take kids to the trout lake for them to do a bit of casting, and for me to have something to occupy my mind, I loved my days out, I'm getting a bit past it now though, I restrict my teaching, if one can call it that, to class room talks, I'm giving one in the morning.......

That is a good deed Goosey. I did something similar with a cub group a few years ago and introduced them to an evening's coarse fishing with a pro mate of mine on the back of it. They loved it. Got me Hobby badge for that!

I am CRB checked should anyone be interested..

Oh I hope so! If not, son's nursery will fail their OFSTED Inspection, probably be placed in Special Measures and deemed inadequate on Safeguarding Procedures.

Can't have any old Tom, Dick or Gander wandering around waving their rod about and showing them their flies.

I have had the check, but I don't believe the safety and protection course is a requirement as I was at all times under the supervision of the teachers.

Hats off to everyone who has the time and enthusiasm to encourage youngsters away from TV based pastimes! These young people WILL inherit our waters, without them, the future of any sort of fishing is grim indeed.
Keep up the good work, I will keep pestering my club to do similar work.
