Just an update on the urban river Don: we've managed to secure agreements to dramatic changes in practice in the planned flood risk management works from this example of previous works on the system:
Before:
After: The area on the left prior to the works saw spawning attempts by the wild fish of the Don system that we all love to catch
To current works that look more like this, and do not include dredging the stream bed:
Many thanks to all who have supported the pressure group efforts, letter writing and consultation group meetings to change the practices - especially Will Brown (S&TA), Paul Hughes (SPRITE), John Blewitt (SPRITE) and Mark Owen (Angling Trust) as well as everyone else who has supported the efforts.
We hope that the rest of the works are rolled out in accordance with this approach and are keeping an eye out and everything crossed that no-one drops the ball between now and the completion of the works on the SPRITE water.
