Default Fishing near Butterton, Peak District?

Hello everyone,

Am heading up to the Peak District on a work related matter at the end of this week but will then be staying up for the weekend near Butterton, hopefully will be able to stick the rods in the car and grab a fish at some point-unfortunately I think I have just missed the end of the river season but does anyone have any recommendations for ressie/small stillwaters or any other options locally?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Mowgli

Default Rivers & Reservoirs

It largely depends on how far you want to go & the type of location you prefer.

Rivers: The Manifold is the nearest to Butterton with the Dove a short distance away

Reservoirs: Tittesworth & Rudyard with Carsington just beyond Ashbourne

Here are some useful links:
Trent Rivers Trust - Peak Passport
Derby Railway Angling Club
Angling and fishing in Derbyshire and the Peak District
Derbyshire County Angling Club

If you do a search on this website for Manifold or Dove, you'll find lots of information.

Best regards
C

Default Carsington

I was out on Carsington yesterday and it was fishing well.

We had 11 to the boat in the morning session only. The fish were right on top of the water, floating line only required.
A full day would be even better as I generally prefer the afternoons.

The rivers can be a bit of a lottery at the moment and don't tend to fish at their best this late in the season, but now it's grayling only.

Not quite sure of my Geography but if you would like a delightful, smallish Still Water have a look at Press Manor.

I put a short report on it on the Forum when we went there after being washed off the Wye.

Super, well run fishery

Press Manor nr. Chesterfield

Default Manifold

I have 2 suggestions,

on the Peak Passport scheme Marsh house

If you need to stay over then this place has fishing on site for free!!
Bed & Breakfast Derbyshire. Accommodation Derbyshire. B&B Derbyshire.
explore their site, you'll see the quality of fish, if you don't need to stay over, I'd look for a beat on the passport scheme close to their stretch...but as you will appreciate, fish have fins & move about.

Please post a follow up note after your visit so we can see what you think

Best regards
C

Default Reservoir

Also consider Errwood

Errwood Fly Fishing Club - Homepage Browns season closed but rainbows ok to end Nov

Incidentally, my earlier post re the river is based on the grayling being open

Best regards
C

Tittesworth was closed to fishing at least 3 years ago. It is a nature reserve now.

Your best water for Butterton would be Carsington, it is only 30 minutes drive if you go through Wetton and then down the A515 to Ashbourne.
