I travelled down to the borders To fish the river Till for Salmon

,with Blue Elver(thanks Trish) but due to heavy rain the previous day the river was running like milk chocolate.

not much use for the fly.It was a nice morning ,so we decided to wait till later to see if the river would clear a bit,The nearest fishery was Chatton,Trish had fished it,but It would be new to me.
Got there and it was busy.but still plenty of space.I borrowed some trout flys from Trish as I had only brought my single handed salmon Gear.Asked at the lodge,as to what was working.and was told montanas. had none but had a black and green tufty. stuck this on with an Intermediate polyleader. 3rd cast hooked a fish

Only for it to fall off after a couple of minutes.

I had a few other taps then after 1/2 an hour I got a take,I knew right away that it was a good fish, took line off the reel ,then took more,Now this was my Thomas and Thomas 10' 8# single handed salmon rod.and I was well bent into it. it had another long run into the middle of the lake, then I brought it into the side where the next bank angler had the net waiting for me.(thanks mate, good job,)I was really gobsmacked with the fish in the net.Got the lightly hooked fly out,a quick photo and safely returned.I estimate about 12-13lbs Really deep good conditioned fish which was a credit to the fishery.

I missed a few more after that, then decided that we should go back and see if the river had cleared, not a chance. So I ended up with a rainbow that was probably bigger than the salmon I was going to fish for.Success from what was nearly a wasted day.

I can highly recommend Chatton fishery,a very well run fishery with friendly staff, and great facilities.
