Default Rutland accommodation

Hi all, me and a mate are thinking of trying our luck in the Autumn Pairs on Rutland on the 9th and want to stay over on the Saturday night locally and preferrably in a pub

Any recommendations? Must be cheap as I'm a Scotsman living in Yorkshire

No where in Rutland is Cheap......well not for a scottish yorkshire man

The cheapest is probably the Fox & Hounds at North Luffenham...about 1.5miles from the lodge....it's about £40 b & b...it's ok for a pint or two and does bar snacks....it's ok as well on a Friday or Saturday night

Noel Arms at Whitwell is also ok but a bit more expensive

Failling that you'll need to stay in Uppingham or Oakham......and have a choice of Pubs because to get a taxi anywhere in Rutland is expensive.

But I would book up early...there are loads of sailing , bird watching and other events on so availability is scarce and prices high..

Or you could camp in a tent.....there are plenty of cheap camp sites very close to the water....Ie.Wing or Opposite the Sailing Club, Pheasents Roost Manton Besides Rutland lodge has a decent hot shower for anglers.

Fox and hounds is OK. pretty good grub. and they don't mind getting you an early breakfast.
You can sometimes get cheap rates in the travellodge on the Uppingham rd.

Try Stamford. Its only 10 minutes from the lodge at Normanton. I live there so have never stayed in any of the B&Bs, but have heard 'The Dolphin', is very reasonable, it is also very close to the town centre with a wealth of pubs and restaurants.

Or go and see Gemma at 'The Stamford Lodge'. I have done some work there, its very nice, but possibly more expensive than the Dolphin.

You can fish there until the end of December, although the boats are taken off the water some time in November (I think ).

Try The King's Arms in Wing, as they may do a deal as tourism is slowing down.
