Default Quickfire questions

Two begginers questions that I've wanted to ask:

1) Why do I need to throw slightly rusty hooks away?

2) What is the upshot of putting a 7wt or 8wt line on a 6wt rod? (similarly a 4wt or 3wt line on a 5 rod)

Rust eats through metal, compromising its strength, a rusty hook can easily snap.

the heavier line will load the rod with less of the line in the air. making punchy casting easier.

Best not to make the mistake I did, and leave all your fly boxes in the car (damp) over the winter months, or you'll find quite anything that's not tied on a stainless hook is knackered.

When I say hooks I mean tied flies but I take your point on compromising strength and sharpness. I cant wait to try experimenting with line weights now.
Thanks so much both.
