Default LA battenkill spool stuck on...any ideas?

I cannot get the spool off my Battenkill LA IV. I thought it was the spring assembly (you know the wee pin you pull to the side) however having removed this completely it still won't budge. It happened to a mates reel of a different brand and he reckoned it was the O' ring so put it in hot water and then in the freezer. One of them worked. I have tried both methods and alas, no joy. It's not budging! I have pulled really hard to part spool from reel and fear I will distort the spool if I pull any harder. Anybody have any ideas

This happened to me wit the mid-arbour, Managed to prize it appart by releasing the spring clip and pulling, was shock to see it had corroded and the clutch was stuck. I use this reel in the sea bit wash it down everytime so was very disappointed.

Are we talking about the old model Battenkill ?
If so that's very strange, when was the last time you had the spool off.
If you have removed the clip, I would spray some WD40 into the spindle and leave overnight, it may resolve it.

Don't mess with it however much you are tempted, to much force can do damage to the cage or reel.
Much easier to send to Orvis customer services and let them deal with it, very quick turnaround and if you are real stuck for using they might even sort you a loaner.
Anyway good luck in getting it sorted.

I haven't had the spool of the reel for months, I think its the new large arbor, got it this yr anyway. Its the one where the branding falls of, the orvis just rubs off. Believe me when I say Im pulling to try and separate it! I have a slight bit of end float now I've removed the spring and blade retaining clip. If I remove the backing I maybe could skoosh some WD40 through the cut outs in the spool to the base of the hub? Thats the next plan. As for finding corrosion, nothing would surprise me with the over priced tat we flyfishers buy.

I hate when things like this happen, i think the best way to go is just to send it too Orvis customer service. I ruined a couple of reels in my younger days trying to fix things.

I bought it at the Orvis shop. I hate shops and ain't too keen on the staff in the shop where I purchased it. I might tell them a few home truths, they're a bit up themselves as has been mentioned by another FM on here before. That is my last resort. Im sure I can get the spool off somehow.

Nothing wrong with getting some things off your chest, good way to cleanse the soul .

My best bet would be to try what Steven said and just wd40 the hell out of it, let it sit overnight and see if it will come off in the morning.
Just be careful not to damage anything, i'm always wary when it comes to things like this.

Jerry

P.S.

I also work in a shop

P.S.s

But i'm a rare breed and actually try to help people that come into my shop, did cost me one day fishing this weekend redoing a guys handle
