For starters, you can fish for brown trout during the season. Where i fish this is 15th March to 30th Sept. If the river has grayling, the season for them is 16th June to 14th March. So in my case, i can fly fish all year round as the rivers i fish have both trout and grayling in them.
I make a point of targetting the fish in season rather than bending the rules. This week end i have used the Duo. Next weekend i will be using weighted nymphs.

jim ...have a look here as counties have differing bye laws for fishing as per dates, fish etc etc ... as you will see you come under northumbrian bye laws

Also to fish many rivers you need a permit as well as rod license.
