Default Fulling Mills Pioneer from the Marketplace

Bought one of these from the Marketplace and wanted to write a quick note of my experience. I'm not an expert so was reluctant to comment on the rod when I first got it, although it seemed a bargain to me. I subsequently showed it to an instructor who used it and commented that it was a really workable rod, all you need, up to the job and a good piece of kit.

As I remember the rod arrived in excellent time with great communication from Sofi (?). Yesterday I called Fulling Mills to report that I had broken the snake ring of the 3rd section down to a stupid move from me. A free replacement section arrived without cost or question this morning.

I'm not sure what 50 quid would get you on the new rod market but this surely has to be a strong option. Thanks Fulling Mills.

I also bought this rod in 9ft 6" 5/6 - it does what it says on the tin and for the price I'd say is good. If you want a stiff action then this is not the rod for you, but if you want a rod with loads of "feel" that casts about as far as your stiffer rods in the right hands then it's great. I haven't bounced a fish off on this rod, unlike the stiffer action ones I own, it's fantastic when playing the fish, bending more through the blank allowing a much more intimate experience and in my opinion more control, esp with fine tippets. It's worked great on stillwaters and on the river, even for smaller brownies to the extent I've used my 8ft #4 Missionary far less.

I've used it with a PP floater WF6, a Cortland 444 Float WF5 plus an Airflo Delta fast glass WF5/6. It casts all lines just fine.

I don't think it is a rod for sunk line work on a big res - (but then I've just bought a Platinum XD comp 10ft #8, so that should be that well covered )
