Default Wye, Usk and Monnow

With the few showers over the last couple of days have hardly touched the river , just enough to settle the dust really. The Wye has probably had the most rain with a little lift of about six inches although quite dirty. Still it is probably enough to freshen up the fishing as the colour drops.

Despite the low water conditions all the rivers and tribs have been fishing well.

With this cracking fish being taken by a client on the Monnow last week!

Having spent a day with Frank sorting out the bad habits I had accumulated due to lack of tuition , I can vouch for him as an instructor.

I only regret that I didn't take advantage of a day such as this when beginning my fly fishing journey as I would have saved so much time and effort.

Top man, and highly recommended.

This year I have been asked by Gliffaes Hotel to run three residential courses.
These courses are aimed at complete beginners and will be held on the hotel's water on the river Usk.

Course 1 – 13th, 14th and 15th May 2011 (staying the nights of the 12th, 13th and 14th May)

Course 2 – 17th, 18th and 19th May 2011 (staying the nights of the 16th, 17th and 18th May)

Course 3 – 16th, 17th, and 18th September 2011 (staying the nights of the 15th, 16th and 17th September)

The Gliffaes Hotel is a fantastic setting in which to learn fly fishing. It is nestled within beautiful grounds on the banks of the famous river Usk, just upstream of Crickhowell.

After the very successful grayling fishing courses I run in partnership with the Wye and Usk Foundation, last Autumn, we have decide to run a another series of fly fishing courses throughout the 2011 trout season.
The subject for each course will be techniques, equipment and casts suitable for the fishing at that specific time of year.

The courses are limited to 6 anglers and cost £75 per person for each day. Included in that cost are permits, tea coffee and biscuits and a small selection of appropriate flies.

Course dates are as follows.

Each day will cover; Wet flies, Nymphs and North Country Spiders.
