Default Cumbria Fishing Festival - 15 - 23 May 2010

As part of the Festival we are running 3 events at Farleton View Fishery next to J36 of the M6 motorway in South Cumbria.

On 16 May there is a course for junior anglers, so if you are aged 11 years - 16 years and want to learn to fly fish then this is for you. We provide all the equipment etc.

On 21 May in the evening we are running a faults and fixes session over 3 hours. If you are struggling with casts, want a bit of extra distance, have problems with tailing loops then it may be worth attending. Bring your own equipment for a hands on session. Aimed at improvers who can already cast a bit. Fishing is also included if you want to have a shot at catching a Trout. This session was very popular last year at the Festival.

Finally on Sunday 23 May we are running a day especially for ladies only. We will teach you to cast, show the equipment and how it all works etc etc and hopefully catch a Trout or two. Everything is included including a welcome coffeee and lunch. 2 spaces left.

Talking Ladies Fly Fishing Beginners Session

Following on from the highly succesful ladies fly fishing event which we held at Farleton View we have been asked by one or two ladies if we are going to run another one day course. This will probably some time next month.

If we get enough demand then we hope to run another event purely for the ladies. This will be at a venue in South Cumbria with easy access to the M6 motorway.

The day is a good fun relaxed day where we show the equipment and how to choose it, tie some basic knots, learn to cast, look at basic bugs and artificials, bite recognition, hooking & playing fish etc etc. Costs have not been worked out yet as that will depend on the venue but will be much less than a normal day - probably about £40 including use of equipment, permit, tuition notes etc etc. A day fishing licence would be extra.

The maximum number of participants would be limited to 8 ladies and there would be two qualified GAIC instructors

Default Single handed casting faults & fixes session

last week we again ran a highly successful session aimed at intermediate level casters who either wanted to sort out their casting problems or to learn a new cast or two.

We are hoping tgo hold another tuition event for improvers on a weekend day during Summer. The venue has not yet been fixed but it will have easy access to the M6 motorway and will be in South Cumbria.

To enable us to spend ample time with everyone numbers will be limited to 8 anglers and the session length will be 4 hours.

If you suffer with tailing loops, lack of delicacy in presentation, broken wrist casting etc etc this session could be just what you need. Also why not learn new casts, hauling and double hauling, coping with different wind directions, roll casting, presentation casts etc.

We will show you how to perform all the usual casts correctly with variations such as shooting line, false casting, roll casting an dlots more. Also we will show the major problems people have when casting and how to fix them. The session will be informal, good fun and hands on and you will be given a set of notes to help you remember the main absolutes to ensure you make good casts.

Until we know the venue we can not give accurate costs but they are likely to be in the region of £30 plus the costs of permits.

If you may be interested please either e mail us at bobcarlson@kencomp.net or you can phone us on 01539 733297 or 07886 817770.

Default Ladies only Fly Fishing Courses (Beginners & improvers)

Hi everyone

Just to let you know that subject to minimum numbers we are running two courses especially for the ladies.

Ladies BeginnersCourse - Sunday 4 July

This course will be held at a lovely fishery close to Junction 38 of the M6 motorway in South Cumbria and is intended for ladies who have never fly fished or perhaps just had a dabble but who would like to learn to do it properly. It is a fun session with like minded ladies.

We start at 10.00am with a welcome cuppa and the day is explained along with a safety briefing. We then look at the tackle used and how to safely assemble it , cover a few basic knots, learn to cast (always great fun), learn to retrive flies, detect bites , hook and play fish and hopefully safe return of fish caught. Also we look at a few typical insects that Trout each and the artificial flies that imitate them. A break for lunch with a cuppa is had and the afternon is spent putting into practice the skills learnt in the morning and hopefully catching a Trout. The day finishes at 3.00pm.

All tackle is included along with permits, refreshments and lunch and you get a comprehensive set of tuition notes to take away. The cost for the day is £50 and your only other expense is a fishing licence which is £3.50 for the day if you don`t have one.

If you are interested please contact us as soon as possible either by phone on 01539 733297 or 07886 817770 or by email at bobcarlson@kencomp.net or b9vee@lycos.com

Improvers Course
This course will be held on Sunday 27 June and the same venue as the beginners course and is aimed at ladies who have attended one of our introduction courses or who have done a little bit of fly fishing but want to improve their skills.

Guaranteed to be good fun with lots of extra skills learnt in the company of ladies with the exception of Bob.

Instruction will be by both Bob and Vera who are game Angling Instructor Association qualified instructors.

If you are interested please contact us as soon as possible on the phone and e mail numbers listed above under the beginners instruction.

If you would like to be included on 4 July please contact us soon aqs we need to let the fishery have final numbers.

Default Brush up on your Casting

With the typical August fishing in the lakes now with us generally needing an early or late in the day approach this is the perfect time to brush up your casting techniques or perhaps learn a new cast or two so that you will be able to take full advantage of the normal trout feeding spree in Autumn. Why not give us a call on 07886 817770 to arrange a couple of hours casting tuning either individually or with a friend/ friends.Try out the new Rio i line at the same time. It will amaze you.
