Default Olive Para Dun.

This dun can be used on small streams or large rivers to imitate large number of insect emerging from the surface film.


Hook: Kamasan B400 Size 12
Thread: Danville's 6/0
Tail: Hackle Fibres (olive)
Body: Guard hairs (olive)
Wing: Olive deer hair.
Thorax: Pinch of seals fur.


Some items which you need.
Hair stacker
Deer Hair comb
Materials.

1. Start the thread.

2. Select your olive hackle and pinch out 3-5 fibres.

3. Tie the loose fibres you selected in as the tail.

4. Dub the thread with olive guard hairs.

5. Wind the dubbing up the shank and create a body.

6. Cut some olive deer hair, put it in the hair stacker and give it a few taps on the table and say the magic word and.....

7. Tie in the deer hair and give it 3-5 loose turns. DO NOT TIGHTEN THE THREAD OF THE DEER HAIR WILL FLARE UP!

8. Now another 3-4 loose wraps in front of the wing. Trim off the butt section waste and tighten the thread so the wing is secure.

9. Dub the body with some more guard hair and create a thorax, wrap the dubbing around the wing..

10. Take a pinch of seals fur and apply it to the thorax to give a buggy effect.

11. Whip finish and you have a killer bug.

Another nice one Cromie, but where's the parachute hackle. Or did you mean to call it the Olive Compara Dun?

I prefer the wing to flare through about 180 degrees on my paraduns. I think it helps them float stably.

Hey Cromie,

Get a glass of water and gink up that wing - stick the fly in the water and take a picture and post it here out of interest.
I have a lot of problems with deer hair wings- mine are iether too much or too little/too long or too short - too me yours looks like too little and a little too long for it to float "proper"
