IMHO it isn't worth the trouble of tying an imitation, they will just be ignored, no matter how well tied or exact they are!

The solution, so it's claimed, is to drag a Muddler, a possible competitor?, through the area of activity. It never worked for me either, anyone else?
I always bluff a few with this

Badger hackles on a hook size 12 or 14,.....get it in line with ones sipping them up works for me.
