It's not an egg laying pattern per se (I think in the context of midge fishing, to concentrate specifically on the ovipositing stage may be unneccessary), but the pattern below should do the trick. It's my version of the crippled midge - you may have seen Headley's article on same in a recent T&S.
It should be tied on a straight shank hook (mine's tied more emerger stylee). If I get some time later, I'll post an SBS.....

Ok, here it is. hastily assembled and certainly not one of my better efforts
Nevertheless, you'll be able to pick up the sequence (much like a klink tbh) and put together a much more acceptable one of your own. Hope you find it useful.

1. Vice your hook (B100 #14 here) and run on the thread, catching in a half thickness of aero-dry, or some white floss etc.

2. Run the thread down partways around the bend, trapping in the floss and then return and form a small stub around the top end of the floss which will later be a parachute post of sorts. Take the thread back down catching in the rib on the way (twisted mirage here).

3. Dub up a shaggy body back towards the post. Black seals fur used here, with a pinch of bloody claret.

4. Follow up with t'rib.

5. Prepare and catch in a longish hackle in the usual manner.

6. Three to four turns of hackle should do the trick.....

7. Now complete the thorax dubbing.

8. Finally, the para hackle is pushed down tight to the bottom of the post between finger and thumb and the wing post is laid forward - as if it were a thorax cover - and tied down behind the eye. Whip finish and varnish the head as normal.

9. Trim the breathers short and the fly is complete.

10. Topside view......

11. And underneath.....

If you decide to have a go, let us see the end result. It can't be any worse than this one!

Good luck,
Matt
