This is a nice little tie that beginners will find quite easy to master.
I have noticed that dressings are described for right handed tyers in the main, for you "lefties" I apologise as I am also a right handed tyer but if you saw the Discovery program about twins you will know that you are special!
On with the tie.
Materials:-
Hook - Kamasan B110 Grubber size 10 or 12
Thread - Danville Monocord red
Wrap - UFL Pearl Mylar 2.5mm
Hackle - Dark Brown Cock
Thread up your hook to just passed the point with touching turns - you can layer the thread if you want to increase the body thickness
Cut the end of the mylar to a fine point (not too clear here) and tie into the rear covering the tip with thread
You can see the effect of the mylar here quite clearly as it "rainbows" colour
I have tried to show the colour shift here but not as good as I hoped
Tie in your hackle and choose how dressed or sparse you want the head to be by varying the number of turns. "Less is More" is the rule but I wanted to show it a bit 'dressy' here. Whip finish a neat head and coat with the ubiquitous SHHAN!
These pictures try to show the colour variation that you can get from this method. Varying the thread colour and mylar type will give you an endless variety of colour shifts in the spider.
The finished fly really does give colour shifts and using it in varying depths can make it effective.
