This is a combination of ideas from a number of sources & assumes a right handed tier. The latch hook is used by carp fishermen for attaching boillies & was originally bought to make the loops in the end of Furled Leaders.

Select you tail feather, squash the quill with pliers & hold vertically in the vice jaws. Pull the individual fibres out horizontally. Hold the tip of the fibre in your left hand (I’ve used tweezers in the video due to lack of space) and manipulate the latch hook device with your right hand.

You can buy a whole knotted pheasant tail for 5 quid

That's a lifetime of hoppers and some poor ******* has tied them for you. I can't see why anyone would buy/make a tool and tie these themselves

Hi Charlie, surely knotting a PT is part of the joy of fly tying.I'm sure we could all go down to our local tackle shop and do as you suggest "buy them for a fiver" but then the fly, strictly speaking would not be tied by you.

Anyway taking that into account what you said we could also go to our local tackle shop and buy the required flies and not bother wasting our time tying flies at all.Sorry to sound sarcastic but I love tying flies.

Actually I knotted a PT last year using just a dubing needle which took some time but I enjoyed every min.At least when I tie some hoppers or daddys I will know that they are 100% mine even if they never catch a fish.

Look out for a boilie threading needle.

The come with a hook or the latch - it looks like either would work fine.
