Default Inline UV Sedgehog

I've been tying a few flies over the last 12 months that I call "inline" so I thought I do a step by step to show the tying method. Mostly used for fishing New Zealand Style/Duo method, attach your subsurface leader to the mini ring so less stress is placed on the bend of the hook.

This version is an Inline UV Sedgehog:

Hook: Medium or Lightweight Size 10-12
Thread: Standard Black
Legs: Two Pheasant Tail Fibers (Knotted)
Body: Black Seals Fur Sub, Blended with UV Lite Brite
Wing: Natural Deer Hair
Mini Ring: Riverge, 7lb mono

Step 1:
Attach thread at the eye and wind down the hook shank.

Step 2:
Tie a mini ring to a piece of mono or fluorocarbon, tie onto the hooks shank

Step 3:
Run the thread along the hook shank to the eye, then double the mono back on itself and secure by running the thread back towards the shank.

Step 4:
Tie in a small pinch of deer hair for the tail.

Step 5:
Dub the seals fur/lite brite blend onto the thread and wind onto the hook to form the body. Only cover 1/3 of the hook shank at this point.

Step 6:
Tie in a second bunch of deer hair to form a wing.

Step 7:
Repeat step 5, followed by a further pinch of deer hair to form a second wing, plus a pair of knotted pheasant tail fibers on each side of the fly to represent legs.

Step 8:
Trim the excess

Step 9:
Dub a little more of the seals fur blend onto the thread, and wind to form the head. Whip/half hitch and varnish to finish.

Very nice Terry and a neat way with the ring.
Near jumped out of my skin when I saw the last pic though.

Thought you'd like that one Scotfly . Works really well though, I was at Curleys fishery a couple of weeks back, fishing that very fly with a couple of glass buzzers suspended under it, anyway it was thick of fog, but just as the fog started to clear there was an almightly swirl at the bung, as a 5lb Blue hit the fly. Anyway I managed to safely pop the 5lber back, repeated the cast and within 2 minutes the same thing happened, only this time it was a rainbow just over 10lb.

Regards,
Terry

Jim,

It's cut in strips from A4 Foam sheets (I think it's called crazy foam!?), rather than from an ethafoam block.

Cut the thin strips, lay the foam strips and the yarn flat on the hook shank and whip at the centre point (as if you are trying to spin deer hair) i.e. the strips are actually doubled over.

Hope that makes sense

Regards,
Terry

Very good idea with the ring Terry, I'll be trying a few of those.

My mate Dylan has an obsession with bungs, he's going to love that one.

When fishing NZ style instead of tying the dropper to the bend of the hook attach it to the ring.
