I've been tying a few flies over the last 12 months that I call "inline" so I thought I do a step by step to show the tying method. Mostly used for fishing New Zealand Style/Duo method, attach your subsurface leader to the mini ring so less stress is placed on the bend of the hook.
This version is an Inline UV Sedgehog:
Hook: Medium or Lightweight Size 10-12
Thread: Standard Black
Legs: Two Pheasant Tail Fibers (Knotted)
Body: Black Seals Fur Sub, Blended with UV Lite Brite
Wing: Natural Deer Hair
Mini Ring: Riverge, 7lb mono
Step 1:
Attach thread at the eye and wind down the hook shank.
Step 2:
Tie a mini ring to a piece of mono or fluorocarbon, tie onto the hooks shank
Step 3:
Run the thread along the hook shank to the eye, then double the mono back on itself and secure by running the thread back towards the shank.
Step 4:
Tie in a small pinch of deer hair for the tail.
Step 5:
Dub the seals fur/lite brite blend onto the thread and wind onto the hook to form the body. Only cover 1/3 of the hook shank at this point.
Step 6:
Tie in a second bunch of deer hair to form a wing.
Step 7:
Repeat step 5, followed by a further pinch of deer hair to form a second wing, plus a pair of knotted pheasant tail fibers on each side of the fly to represent legs.
Step 8:
Trim the excess
Step 9:
Dub a little more of the seals fur blend onto the thread, and wind to form the head. Whip/half hitch and varnish to finish.
