Default Advice on the Mallard and claret,

Im looking for advice on how to tie the the bronze mallard wing on a mallard and claret,Every time i try to tie it down at the head the wing just folds slightly ruining the look of the fly.The same seems to happen with every wet fly i tie. thanks in advance.

Pinch and loop is the normal method, have a look at an expert doing it and keep practising!
Only meant to post a link, not sure why the video came up!

Take one slip of Mallard, depending on how dense you want the wing to be, usually about 1.5 cms does me, fold it in three and then pinch and loop. It usually produces a fairly decent wing. That video of Davie McPhails could be misleading as he uses two slips of starling for the wing of the Greenwells. To be honest, by the time the water gets at the wing, it usually moves into shape itself. Good luck

Yeah pinch and loop...good point on water reaction though Mike.

Use a pinch & loop method, but fold NOT roll the feather slip into 1/3 or 1/4 its original size to get the profile you want.

And a good bit of spit at the end helps to hold it together... at least for as long as it takes to photograph it...

I found that instead of just pinching a loop and then pulling it tight if you make one looop old it make another pinch it and then pull it tight it is less likely to twist the wing.

Delighted to hear that. One other thing that comes to mind is to keep the end of the wing at about the hook bend, not past it. I feel it makes the fly more realistic, though what the M+C represents, goodness only knows. Would be interested in what the others feel.
