Lightbulb The Booby as a step by step.

On another board (many of the same members as here) one of the fellows posted that the 'Booby' was an excellent fly off a sinking line for fresh water Small Mouth Bass. We have a lake just a few miles from here (where I take the dogs every day) that's loaded with the things.

As with many things, the fly looks simple enough to tie, but coming up with a zero on where to get the round (I think?) foam heads. A step by step would be most appreciated, as well as a link to a 'E-tailer' that sells the heads/ships to the US. To my surprise, lots of 'search' references to the Booby, but none (that I could find anyway) on the actual construction of same.

Thanks in Advance!
Fred

I bought mine online as little foam cylinders to be cut to size - I don't use them for boobies, they are for parachute hackle wing posts - but I've seen instructions somewhere for making a punch to cut them out of blocks of foam. Might be the way to go?

Fred,

Just sharpen up a section of hollow metal tube of the desired size - aerials are superb ......and use them as a 'drill' through a plazcoat foam block to produce a cylinder of foam.

Cut aerial to required diameter and insert in drill, use on a high speed but drill foam slowly, seems to create a smooth cylinder, forgot to say, file inside slightly to get rid of burrs and sharpen, same on outside, ian

Fred hope this helps The Soldier Palmers Home As the others suggest you can cut your own cilinders, but you can but pre cut ones.

Default Not sure why I didn't find this earlier (and I do mean MUCH EARLIER) this AM.

But found several 'how to's' this PM. Will have to see where I can get the 'eye' material locally ... a craft shop he wonders allowed?
