Default Skitso

I'm posting this very simple step by step for those of you who fancy having a crack at tying Pike flies. I saw this fly in Ad Swiers wonderful book, " Passion for Pike - The Challenge and mystery of flyfishing for Pike". It is important to stress that this is a variation and if you want the recipe for the original, well, you'd better buy the book!

Tie in a nice pinch of yellow bucktail or similar. (The hook is a 4/0)

Next catch in two long strips of rabbit fur strips. At this stage also catch in a few strands of krinkle flash either side of the hook.

Catch in another single rabbit strip and wind it in touching turns up towards the eye. Stop about 1.5cm from the eye. Again, catch in krinkle flash either side of the hook.

To finish, use a contrasting colour of rabbit fur as the 'head', whip finish and varnish....EASY!! Tons of movement and Pike attracting life!!!

Nice step by step Dougie.

I can't wrap the zonker strips when I try though! I seem to end up with the skin showing

Any Tips?

It might be the quality of the strips isn't great Yaffle?

It's also important to wind it round the right way, with the hairs naturally pointing backwards - I always stroke the fur back between each turn.

Hope this helps ya!

I got them from Cookshill, so they should be good!

It's probably that I'm not wrapping it round the right way! I shall try again!
