Here is one of the most original dressings for this pattern, taken from Fishing with Bill Sibbons (1990):

When All Else Fails
Hook: 12-14 Drennan Traditional Wet
Silk: Black
Body: Fine lead wire for size 14, medium lead wire for size 12, wound in tight turns from bend to eye, then superglued
Head: About ten strands of white deer hair laid along the top of the hook about 1/8 inch from the eye of hook and trimmed back
