Hi folks,

Just wondering if someone can reccomend a book for me. Basically i want a book which will give me a step by step guide to tying traditional wet flies, particularly Irish wet flies.....

i'm sure there is a book out there that will do the job..Are you a connemara man? From Clifden myself.

I have a few of O'Reillys books, but none of the ones i have go into too much detail regarding tying the flies...

Cheers

E J (Ted) Malone's book Tying Flies in the Irish Style might be a book worth considering JJ.

I'm sure you can get it on Amazon or Coch Y Bonddu books.

JJ,
There is a guy on YouTube called Davie McPhail and he ties most patterns, he is excellent and addictive.Look up YouTube and let me know how you got on.

I have that book of Malone's and it is excellent though dont think a lot of the correspondence between Skues and Hanna is needed nor the bits about dying because Veniards Dyes are virtually foolproof
GIVE Frankie McPhillips a ring in Enniskillen. He has a DVD out on tying 6 basic types of wets and he is about to bring out two more on BUMBLES DABBLERS AND MAYFLIES. He was a teacher and it is eay to see on the DVD that he has brought those attributes into his teaching of FlyTying. McPhails tyings can be a bit complicated but worth a long look because they are free. He too has a DVD which I believe GAC sells.
Good Luck

Thanks guys. Yes i do check out dave mcphail on you tube, but more often than not my missus is on my laptop while i am tying my flies so it doesn't always work out. Plus sometimes i just prefer using a book, no need to log on etc...

I will see about buying a copy of Malones book. It sounds like there is a lot of info i don't need in his book. Have no interest in dyeing, making boxes, using drogues or anything like that... just tying...

Thanks a million. It seems to me that there might be a place in the market for a book on traditional wetflies... Surely someone on here would be able it, considering the quality of tying i see on here. Better tying than on many a book i have seen.... Maybe a few of ye could get together...

cheers
JJ
