Hoping that I have this right, a step by step of an Olive emerger as tied by Stuart Crofts, as Stuart said, this fly should last a few fish before needing replacement, I like that in a fly
Hook is a Hayabusa Klinkhammer, size 16, with a bend about 5mm back from the eye, you need to make this bend, use pliers and be gentle, attach tying thread, Olive if you have it
Tie in your body\tail material, I have used Olive Neve Fibre (Roman Moser)
Bind it down on
top of the hook shank, then tie in some mirage tinsel
Dab the shank with varnish, and wind the mirage up in touching turns
Lightly, think waterhen bloa, dub the thread with a minimal amount of Olive Superfine dubbing, take this down to the end of the mirage and back up in open turns, allow the mirage to shine through
Pull the Dust fibre up and over the dubbed body, leaving a couple of strands to imitate a trailing shuck, tie down and remove the waste ends
Catch in a par of Olive CDC feather by the tips, try to get 2 similar feathers for this
Dub the thorax, I have used Pine Squirrel.
Pull the CDC feather over the dubbed thorax and tie off, remove waste CDC, add a drop of varnish, job done
The mirage tinsel should show through the dubbed body, gives that gaseous impression just before emergence of the fly
