Hi guys.
Bear with me on this one as it's the first time I've attempted a step by step. The fly is a Perch fry tied using EP fibers. You may wish to tie it and give it a swim....
Place the hook in the vise (in this case a Partridge Ad Swier 4/0). I have used UTC GSP in this case as it is very strong and avoids the bulk of heavier threads. Take this half way along the shank and give it a coat of superglue.
Catch in an inch of red EP fibers on each side of the hook.
Catch in a 4" length of Chartreuse Wing n Flash or similar.
Using thin strips of EP fibers, start to build up the body taper by catching in white lengths on the sides of the hook and olive along the top. Use slightly heavier hanks of the green to achieve the required 'hump' effect of the perch. At these stages you can also add little quanities of flashy material as required - I have used pearl crinkle flash.
Catch in a small quantity of yellow EP on the underside of the fly and add two red EP 'cheeks' either side.
Add a small pinch of Silver sparkle, again, on each side of the hook. Tie off your thread and colour the GSP with a permanent marker.
Using a dark olive/black marker, add the obligatory perch stripes. Hold the fibers taught with your left hand and gently colour the fibers.
Add a little hologram eye and coat with epoxy or similar.
The finished fly.
Dougie.
