Default Sparkle Chironomid

Well, looks like it's time for my first ever SBS, so be gentle please

I was PM'd a little while ago asking if I'd do an SBS for this pattern, so hopefully it might helps others too. Hope you enjoy the pattern, but it's helped me into a healthy number of fish, both at the back end of the last trout season as well as through this winter when fish have been feeding off small midges caught in the surface film.

Hook: Varivas 2200BL-B, #24
Thread: Gudebrod 10/0, grey
Body: Pearl tinsel
Breathers: Niche Midge Wing, grey
Thorax: Squirrel

1. Catch-in thread and wind down and around hook shank.

2. Tie-in your pearl tinsel, wind thread back up body to just behind the eye, wind-up tinsel and catch down.

3. Catch in Midge Wing using two turns of thread.

4. Un-twist thread by spinning anti-clockwise, split with a needle and insert a small pinch of squirrel dubbing.

5. Re-twist dubbing by spinning clockwise to spin dubbing…

6. …three turns of dubbing/thread.

7. Tie off directly behind eye (this angles the breather upwards) and trim Midge Wing to desired length.

Nice one mate. Looks deadly. Could it be what those wiley Usk trout want of a summer evening?

Do you go through that midge wing pretty fast?

Thanks for the thumbs up guys, looks like SBS #1 went okay

Mike, yup, I'm hoping that'll work okay this summer...if you remember the frustrating evenings we fished there last year, nothing seemed to work, so I'll be going smaller this time around And yup, I knew someone would spot that, I did use rather a lot of Midge Wing. It was 'First SBS Nerves' I tell ya

Madjoni, I am indeed the mighty Mostyn's friend I'll be fishing with him this Saturday. Bring on the streams

He's known as 'the maestro' around these valleys.

Gareth, I am a prolific materials waster - it takes one to spot one.
