Default The Blob

I must be going soft in the head and lord knows what it will do for my reputation, but since it’s been asked for a few times now, here is the Blob. I’ve tied it in Orange, but you tie it any colour that takes yours, or the trout’s fancy.

HOOK – Kamasan B175 #10
THREAD – Fluorescent Orange
TAIL – Orange Marabou
BODY –Orange Fritz

STEP 1
Attach the thread to the hook.

STEP 2
Select and prepare your marabou by first selecting the amount and pulling it off the stem.

Then holding the bunch in your left hand, scrape the fibres from the stem with you left hand finger and thumb nails. This will make it neater to tie in and avoid the bulk normally caused by marabou.

STEP 3
Tie the marabou in on top of the hook shank.

STEP 4
Prepare and tie in the Fritz for the body by stripping the core ready for tying in. Do this the same way you did the marabou. When you have it tied in, continue wrapping the thread to the head area catching in the butts of the materials as you go.

STEP 5
Wrap the Fritz up the body. Sweep the Fritz back with every turn to ensure as dense a body as possible.

When you reach the head your final wrap should be held up and over the hook shank as shown.

Before being tied down and the waste trimmed off.

STEP 6
Form a neat head and whipfinish

STEP 7
Finally grip the tail tightly in your right hand and tear the tail to length with your left hand for the completed fly. Tearing the marabou gives a nicer finish than cutting it.

About all I'd use the things for... or as an earring

Gazzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Chuck it out as far as you's can and pull it back as fast as you's can, if that doesn't work try pulling it back slower, if that doesn't work try figure of eight. If all that doesn't work you's can try a combination of all three, like two fast pulls one slow pull three or four figure of eights a couple of fast pull again, but don't forger to stop when you's hook get to the rod tip
But watch those fish, crafty little buggers they are, just when you think you's cracked it on the fast pull, they'll go and want it slow like.

Well tied Scotfly - u have obviously practiced that one

A friend of mine showed me his latest box of tricks at the weekend. Such was the intensity of the colours I am still suffering from blurred vision.
No doubt he has been purchasing from Daver or Artifly.

The secret of fishing blobs is to pretend Highlander is hiding in the bushes with a double barrel shotgun waiting to nail any blobites. That will ensure good fish enticing " very erratic" retrieves, quick playing and returning of fish.
