Default High-Viz Balloon Caddis - for New Zealand / duo style

Good morning All,

I've just made a new addition to the River Fly Box.

This pattern is very much based on Roman Moser's Balloon Caddis, and it is part of the fly box as a high-riding dry fly for fishing New Zealand style / duo. As if the balloon caddis wasn't obvious enough with its yellow, foam head, this incorportates a a pink yarn sighter.

Full tying instruction with photographs are here:

River Fly Box, High Vis Caddis, New Zealand style, Duo, Trio, Indicator

Hope it's of use,
Dave

Excellent fly and the SBS is very clear to follow. Thanks for posting.

PS: Your fly boxes do look very neat

Nice!! Do you think the pink yarn is necessary during normal conditions? I can see it would help late evening.

Possibly not, but it can be great for very fast water. Of course I carry with and without and in different colours too. But just a few of each

Apologies Dave, afterwards I looked on your site and saw both versions, got to say I do particularly like the scraggly leggy effect around the thorax area.

Downunder we prefer dull coloured fly lines because the flash of colour from a false cast can be enough to spook the trout. Wait until they see that thing zipping back and forth!! All it needs is a siren. hehe...
