One of my favourite hackled flies.
Hook: Tiemco 100 #18
Tails: Duck Flank
Body: Mole fur
Hackle: Grizzle
Thread: Benecchi 12/0

Please see Spy1's post about taking the mole rope right through to the eye then wrapping the hackle over it.

Start thread and run down to barb, build a thread bump here to raise the tails and tie tails in.



Cut excess and run thread back to barb.



Rake a bit of mole from the pelt.



Split thread and insert dubbing



Spin to make dubbing rope.



Wind body to hackle tie in point and tie in grizzle hackle.




Wrap hackle and whip finish.




One tied with mole rope run through to the eye.

Halfway down this page, it's the Waldren fine ceramic. Lakeland is the only place I know that does them, perhaps someone knows where else to get them from.

Tango, please take this in the manner it is intended, the Bangor Duster you have tied is very nearly right, as you take the dubbing rope down towards the hook eye, trap the hackle in under the rope about 1/8" from the eye and carry on winding the rope to near the eye, leaving enough room for your whip finish, overwind the hackle over the molefur rope starting with a small open turn towards the eye and build up tighter as you near the eye. The amount of molefur you are using is fine in the rope, just make the rope longer for the purpose.

To all, the 'Bangor Duster' is a variation of the 'Grey Duster' tied very many moons ago by a Bangor on Dee Angler and its a great fly.
