Great fly.

I was always taught to tie the "body hackles" in at the head and then palmer them towards the tail and catch in using the silver wire.

Can anyone tell me which way is best.

I've also noticed that you have stripped one side of the hackles - any reason for this?

I would normally tie in body hackles at the head, but Stevies way seems to work fine for him.

One reason for to put the hackle at the head is to reduce bulk at the bend of the hook with adding in loads of materials.

This fly worked very well on my club loch last season for a number of our members.

When i palmer with a single hackle i start from the head back as normal....when i palmer 2 hackles i start from the tail up and bring the wire up the opposit way......the hackles are not stripped.. they are folded to avoid trapping... i find folding them is better for palmering

That palmering technique is the way Kingsmill-=Moore tied his bumbles. Certainly folding them makes a very tidy body hackle.
