Default Red arsed hedgehog

Hedgehogs are deadly in their own right but this version comes into it's own from May onwards.

HOOK: Kamasan B175 size 10 or 12 or B160 SIZE 8
THREAD: BLACK UNI 8/0
BODY: Electric Red Seals Fur (Butt only) & Hot Olive Seals Fur
WING & HEAD: Roe Deer dyed Hot Olive.

Place hook in vice and run thread down towards bend leaving enough bare hook behind eye to form head.

STEP 2

Take a small bunch of deer hair and tie in to form tail.

STEP 3
Click the image to open in full size.
Dub the red seals fur onto the thread and make 2-3 turns to form butt.

STEP 4

Tie in a second bunch of deer hair to form start of wing trim waste and use thread to flatten body.

STEP 5
Click the image to open in full size.
Take olive seals fur dub onto thread and make 2-3 turns over thread to form next section of body.

STEP 6

Tie in a third section of deer hair.

When tying in each section of deer hair pull back hair between your fingers and thumb as above, this helps to tie down the hair.

STEP 7
Click the image to open in full size.
Dub to form another section of the body then tie in a forth section of the Deer Hair wing.

STEP 8
Click the image to open in full size.
Take a slightly smaller ammount of deer hair and tie this in to form the first section of the head.
Click the image to open in full size.
Only use 3-4 turns of thread leaving the deer hair more vertical.

STEP 9
Click the image to open in full size.
Take a final piece of deer hair and lay vertical on top of the bare part of the hook.

STEP 10
Click the image to open in full size.
With the hair still between your finger and thumb using the pinch and loop method as when forming a muddler head spin this final section to form the head.

STEP 11
Click the image to open in full size.
Make a few turns of thread in front of the final spun piece of deer hair to push it back slightly.

STEP 12
Click the image to open in full size.
Finally, using a good pair of scissors trim head to shape to complete the finished fly.

Cheers
Gerry
